RALEIGH, N.C. — For years, floorball players from Richmond and North Carolina’s Triangle have crossed the Virginia–North Carolina line to scrimmage, compete and support one another’s communities.
This summer, those longstanding connections are showing what an East Coast floorball network can become.
Triangle Floorball Club, which has been building the sport in North Carolina since 1995, finished second at the 2026 U.S. National Championships in Chicago.
In August, Triangle traveled to Richmond for Atlantic Floorball Open II, where approximately 50 players gathered at the Henrico Sports & Events Center. Triangle won the tournament.
Two weeks later, the floorball community comes together again.
Triangle will host the East Coast Tournament Sept. 5–6 at Netsports in Morrisville, with teams traveling from across the country and USA Floorball bringing its Men’s U19 program into the field. (Triangle Floorball Club)
For Richmond and Triangle, the weekend is not the beginning of a relationship. Players from the two communities have been traveling between Virginia and North Carolina and playing together for years.
What is changing is the scale around them.
Local scrimmages have grown into regional tournaments. Regional clubs are increasingly connecting with national programs. And the same Netsports venue hosting the East Coast Tournament this weekend will host the U.S. Adult National Championships when they come to Raleigh in June 2027.

That makes this weekend a snapshot of how American floorball grows: locally first, then through relationships between communities willing to travel, compete and build together.
Triangle has been doing that work for more than three decades. Richmond has become part of that network. USA Floorball’s U19 program brings the national-development level into it this weekend.
And next June, the national championship comes to the same floor.

For people seeing floorball for the first time, the story is bigger than one tournament.
It is a network of communities that has been building for years — and is increasingly giving American floorball somewhere to grow.
